Job Overview
- The Systems Engineering team is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to own the integration of our Range Extender (internal combustion engine (ICE), generator and inverter) system into our EV architecture.
- In this role, you will coordinate the mechanical integration, controls, and regulatory compliance for the Range Extender system. You will not only ensure the engine runs smoothly and charges the high-voltage battery efficiently but also lead the critical pathway to CARB OBD II certification. You will manage a mix of in-house testing and outsourced engineering partners to ensure our vehicles are legal, reliable, and drivable.
What you will do
- Lead the systems integration of the Range Extender into the vehicle chassis and high-voltage architecture.
- Perform engine and vehicle calibration to balance drivability (NVH), thermal management, fuel efficiency and emissions.
- Define functional requirements for the range extender operation strategy to maintain HV Battery SOC.
- Troubleshoot system integration issues between the ICE, Generator, Inverter, and Vehicle Systems.
- Develop and own the OBD Certification Roadmap to ensure compliance with CARB 1968.2 and EPA requirements.
- Define OBD monitor requirements, P-code logic, freeze frame data, and diagnostic connector specifications.
- Manage the OBD demonstration vehicle testing cycles.
- Act as the technical point of contact for external engineering consultancies and testing laboratories (e.g., emissions dyno labs).
- Create DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) for the range extender system.
- Conduct in-vehicle testing and data logging using industry-standard tools.
Who you are
- Possess a Bachelor's degree or other relevant educational credential.
- 5+ years of experience in automotive powertrain systems, specifically with internal combustion engines or hybrid architectures.
- Strong working knowledge of CARB OBD II requirements, emissions standards, and the certification lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience with calibration and data acquisition tools (e.g., Vector CANape, CANalyzer and ETAS INCA).
- Ability to understand the interaction between thermal, mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink control logic.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to requirements and testing of automotive systems
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a dynamic team environment
- Comprehensive Health, Dental & Vision (HDV) – 100% employee covered
- Early-stage Stock Options
- Robust Retirement Savings (401k, HSA, FSA)
